France, June 2000
The second time in 18 months driving to the south of France and back, this trip yielded some good opportunities for picture taking... Click on any picture to see the full sized version
Valbonne, near Nice is a beautiful little unspoilt old town surrounded by car parks, The centre is a maze of tiny streets too small for cars, I walked by this one and saw the cat which makes the pic.
'ete' (can't do the accents, Microsoft won't let me) means 'summer', I had the most stupid sun-tan after this holiday, 11 days in the car with the roof down with shorts and a t-shirt means a tan any council worker would be proud of...
Foissy-sur-Vanne is one of the places where I stayed the night on the way down, I like the way the shadow of a cloud is going across the field, the 'hugeness' of France is a bit difficult to capture...
Monte-Carlo is an amazing place. Compared to Nice, where you're in fear of your life most of the time, Monte-Carlo has two policemen in every street. I thought the grass on the greens throughout the city was astro-turf it was so perfect. This was taken outside the Casino in Casino square, I was playing spot the ferrari/rich person (as you do) and wanted to capture the movement and life of the place.
Ponteves is in Provence, I'd found where I was going to stay but the family were out, along the lane there was a small farmhouse with a German car outside belonging to a couple that were staying there too. We got chatting and sat and had some wine while I waited for the family to return, after a while I looked up and saw the aeroplane trails in the sky. The sky really was that blue...
I like using mirrors and 'blur' in my pictures, this one was taken outside of the Automotive museum in Vallauris near Nice, It's an interesting purpose built building, the mirrors were everywhere.
That's it for the French pics...
